When Isaac Avila met a woman named Gaby, he had no idea it would lead to a reunion with his long-lost sister.

The homeless man, who goes by Chico, had been apart from his sister Lupe for 40 years. In fact, the 65-year-old hadn’t seen any of his family members since he was 25 years old.

Gabby, who met Chico by chance, helped him record a video through Miracle Messages, a nonprofit that hopes to reunite homeless people with their families through short recordings it posts online. Social media helps circulate the message, as it’s done for others in the past, including a homeless woman in Florida who was able to see her son again.

“I know it’s been a long, long, long, long time but I still remember y’all as y’all were y’all were young,” he said in the video message. “I wish I could get a hold of you in a better way, but this is going to be the fastest way. …My heart is missing y’all big time.”

His sister Lupe happened to see the message and traveled from North Carolina to Miami to reconnect with her brother. The heartwarming reunion was captured in the video shown below. Through their long embrace, it’s clear how much they missed each other.
